Vocabulary - Physical Characteristics

These words are used when talking about people and Physical Characteristics. Each word is placed into a related category and example sentences are used to provide context.


Age
baby - Everyone goes through a lot of diapers when they are a baby.
toddler - Toddlers take their first steps around the age of two.
child - Having a child is one of the great joys in life.
teenager - Many teenagers have to deal with a lot of stress because of testing.
teens - I played a lot of sports in my teens.
the thirties/forties/ fifties - Most people have settled down by their forties.

'First' or 'Firstly'?

People have been complaining about 'firstly' for centuries
When enumerating a list of two or more things, should you begin with first or firstly? There’s a strong preference for first in written English today, but adverbs are supposed to end in -ly, aren’t they? Like so many “rules” of English, this one isn’t a rule at all, but a shortcut that helps with broad generalizations.
